George HodgsonGeorge Hodgson

Chief Executive


George is Chief Executive, and works on the management and delivery of STEP’s strategy and activities. Prior to joining STEP, George held a senior policy position at the Association of British Insurers and has also served on the staff of the Treasury Committee of the UK House of Commons. Before moving into public policy work George had a career in investment banking spanning 20 years as a top-rated economist and investment strategist.

George leads the Policy Team and is responsible for managing STEP’s relationship with major external stakeholders such as governments, regulators and international organisations such as the OECD and FATF. As well as representing STEP’s views to these stakeholders, a key role is also to ensure that STEP members are informed of major policy developments which may lead to changes in legislation.

Elaine CrehanElaine Crehan

Chief Operating Officer Member Services


Elaine is a senior marketing professional within the B2B markets. Elaine started at STEP in 2005 as Marketing Manager and is now COO Member Services. Several departments sit within Member Services, including Membership, Marketing, Special Interest Groups and Branch Development. Elaine is a member of Chartered Institute of Marketing and The Institute of Direct and Digital Marketing.

Jim WilkinshawJim Walkinshaw

Chief Operating Officer Finance and Resources


Jim is a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants. Jim has worked in many finance functions over the last 25 years from financial accountant to director of finance. 

Jim’s main responsibilities as COO for Finance and Resources are finance, HR, governance, contracts, IT and office infrastructure. 

Louise PolcaroLouise Polcaro

Director of Communications


Louise and her team manage all of STEP’s communications channels, including publications (STEP Journal, Trusts Quarterly Review, Directory and Yearbook, and all books, reports and leaflets), the website, e-newsletters (including the Industry News Digests, Membership Newsletter, Weekly Update and Jobs Update), all central social media channels and all press and media activity. Louise and her team are responsible for developing current and new communications to meet member needs.

Nigel RaceNigel Race

Director Professional Development


Nigel leads the Professional Development Team. The team oversee the STEP qualifications and liaise closely with Central Law Training, who deliver many of the qualifications. They work closely with the Professional Development Committee and are responsible for the development of new qualifications; Continuing Professional Development (CPD), including CPD Policy and resources; and the STEP Employer Training Scheme, which is in the pilot stage and aims to develop closer relationships with employers of STEP members via endorsement of employer training.
