UK Technical Committee
The UK Technical Committee co-ordinates STEP's particpation in
debate on technical and legislative issues affecting the trusts and
estates profession in the UK and is chaired by Wendy Walton, a
member of STEP who is also Head of Private Client
and a partner at BDO.
Terms of Reference
To consider technical issues relating to trusts and estates and
the taxation thereof particularly arising from new legislation, or
court decisions.
- Where appropriate, to disseminate information to Branches,
directly or through the Journal.
- To comment on UK Budget proposals and Finance Bill provisions
relevant to the taxation of trusts and estates and make submissions
where appropriate.
- To make representations to HMRC on issues to be addressed
in forthcoming Finance Bills and suggest revisions to existing
legislation as appropriate.
- To comment on or make proposals for legislation on the general
law relating to trusts and estates.
- To provide, where appropriate, standard precedents.
- As and when appropriate, to consider establishing a referral
system for technical enquiries.
