Joining STEP in Australia: Education Route: Open To All

Progress from STEP Affiliate, through to STEP Technician and finally Full STEP Member via specific qualifications.


The first level of membership is STEP Affiliate. You will need 60 Entry Level credits. These can be gained from:

  • Academic or professional qualifications at a minimum of Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) Level 5 (max. 30 credits awarded) AND/OR
  • Prior Junior Level experience (max. 30 credits awarded) AND/OR
  • STEP Certificate (up to 60 credits)

The next level of membership is STEP Technician. To progress to this you need a minimum of 60 Diploma Level (DL) credits. These can be gained from*:

  • Completion of two STEP Advanced Certificates (30 DL credits awarded per Certificate) AND/OR
  • Completion of two modules from Accredited Education Partners, e.g. The College of Law’s LLM (Applied Law) – Wills & Estates or Charles Sturt University’s Master of Applied Finance (30 DL credits awarded per module)

Full STEP member

The third and final level of membership is Full STEP member. You will need 120 DL credits, plus proof of at least 2 years’ mid-senior level experience. You can gain your additional credits from*:
