10. How do I login to http://www.step.org/and the CLT student
website?
1. Do I need to apply to STEP as well as CLT when I book myself
onto a STEP course?
No, you should send your application form to the address stated
on the form. You will then be registered with both STEP and CLT (or
the relevant course provider).

8. Exemptions
An exemption form can be found on the CLT website for the
qualification you are studying - see websites listed above. Please
contact the CLT office for more details on exemptions. Exemptions
are not available for the QP route.

9. What is the difference between the CLT and STEP
websites?
The CLT website gives STEP students access to course and exam
timetables, enrolment application forms, study aids and examination
results. The STEP website provides information on course content,
additional courses, upgrading to full STEP membership and student resources.

10. How do I login to www.step.org and the CLT student
website?
Login information for the CLT and STEP websites are different.
The CLT website uses your CLT student ID number. This will have
been included with your distance learning materials. The STEP
website uses your STEP membership number. To find out your
membership number, contact the STEP Worldwide office.

password ready to be able to login. You will have received these
from CLT with your course materials. Should you experience any

12. What are the timelines for
the Qualified Practitioner (QP) route?
The Qualified Practitioner route runs
on an annual cycle with topics available for viewing in
July/August; the deadline for submitting registration forms stating
chosen essay topics is November 30th; and the deadline for
submission of those papers is April 30th of the following year.

14. How long do I have to complete the Diploma/ QP route to
full STEP membership?
You will need to complete the programme within 4 years.
If you require an extension to complete the Diploma, you will
need to complete and return the extension
application form.

15. Upgrading to full STEP
membership
You will be sent an invitation to upgrade form on successful
completion of the Diploma or QP Route. Your application, once
received, will be reviewed by the Membership Committee and once
approved a letter of confirmation will be sent. In addition to
passing the papers, you must also have two years experience in
trusts and/or estates in order to become a full member of STEP. If
you complete the Diploma programme or QP papers and do not have two
years experience, you will become an associate member until two
years experience has been gained. You can
also find the upgrade form on the STEP website.
For students studying a STEP Certificate, you can become an
affiliate of STEP on completion of this
qualification. Alternatively, STEP Certificates provide a route to
study the Diploma and go on to become a full member of STEP.

16. Should I become a full STEP
member or an affiliate of STEP?
If you have completed a STEP Certificate and wish to end your
studies here, you can become an affiliate of
STEP. Affiliates of STEP receive all the benefits associated
with full STEP membership, other than the right to use the
designation TEP, vote at general or branch meetings or stand for
election at Council.
If you have completed a STEP Diploma or the QP papers, you will
upgrade to full membership of STEP.

17. Are there student awards? When? For whom?
The STEP Student Excellence Awards are held in May or June of
each year for England and Wales students. Awards are given to those
individuals who achieved outstanding results in either the STEP
Diploma exams or the Qualified Practitioner papers.
Other STEP jurisdictions also hold student awards ceremonies at
various times throughout the year. Check with your branch secretary for more information.
