STEP's range of standard and specialist diplomas are available for specific countries, or internationally via distance-learning with online resources

STEP has a range of standard and specialist diplomas, designed to support practitioners’ careers and employers’ business needs. For all diplomas, applicants must have gained 60 Entry Level credits before enrolling at Diploma Level.

STEP Australia - Accredited Education Partners

The New South Wales, Queensland and Victoria Law Societies’ training are recognised as routes to STEP membership.

STEP Diploma for Canada

The STEP Diploma for Canada is intended for candidates who work, or aspire to work, in the trusts and estates industry in Canada.

STEP Diploma in Advising Vulnerable Clients - England and Wales

This new specialist Diploma provides a route to Full membership, for professionals that focus on advising vulnerable clients. To earn a STEP Diploma in Advising Vulnerable Clients, you need to successfully complete the following Advanced Certificates:

STEP Diploma in International Trust Management - Worldwide

The STEP Diploma in International Trust Management is designed to develop your understanding of the law and practice of the international trust industry from global and local standpoints. The following Advanced Certificates are available online and face-to-face:

STEP Diploma in Tax and Estate Planning - England and Wales

This new specialist Diploma offers a route to full membership for professionals that need to advise clients with cross-border estates that are connected to the UK. To gain the Diploma, applicants must complete the following four Advanced Certificates:

The Entry Level Certificate in Trusts and Estates - England & Wales is useful for ensuring you have the basic knowledge to support your Diploma Level studies. STEP Diploma in Tax and Estate Planning - Scotland

There is currently no Entry Level Certificate for the Scotland Diploma series, but STEP offers accreditation of prior learning and experience and other UK certificates like the Certificate for Financial Services - Trust and Estate Planning. STEP Diploma in Trust and Estate Planning - Ireland

The course is divided into five modules covering the topics below:

  • Estate Planning
  • Wills & Probate
  • Trusts
  • Administration of Trusts and Estates
  • Taxation of Trusts and Estates

This course is delivered in Dublin, with an option to watch live webinars via the Law Society of Ireland's website.

STEP Diploma in Trusts and Estates - New Zealand

This Diploma is a practical and hands-on course. It is specifically designed by leading New Zealand trust and estate practitioners and is delivered via distance learning and workshops, in person or online. The topics covered are:

  • The trust concept including transfer of assets into trusts and differences between declaration and deed of trust
  • Background/history of discretionary family trusts in NZ (eg. estate duty, mirror trusts etc), and purposes of having a trust in an NZ context (including Family Protection Act, Property (Relationships) Act, creditor protection)
  • Ways in which trusts may be rendered ineffective or "attacked"
  • Trust instrument part 1
  • Trust instrument part 2
  • Other trusts - a brief intro to charitable trusts, super schemes and unit trusts, Maori trusts, resulting and constructive trusts
