George Hodgson

George HodgsonGeorge is Chief Executive at STEP. Prior to joining STEP he held a senior policy position at the Association of British Insurers, the main insurance industry trade body in the UK and has also served on the staff of the Treasury Committee of the UK House of Commons. Prior to moving to public policy work George had a career in investment banking that spanned over 20 years as one of the top rated economists and investment strategists. He holds economics degrees from the University of Durham and the University of Stirling and has been the author of many articles and research reports on trusts, taxation and investment issues.

George can provide comment on STEP, regulatory developments and STEP public policy.

Emily Deane TEP

Emily DeaneEmily Deane TEP is Technical Counsel at STEP. Prior to joining STEP Emily graduated from Keele University with a BA (Hons) in English and subsequently from Westminster University with a Graduate Diploma in Law. She was admitted to the Roll of Solicitors in England & Wales in 2005. In recent years she has been based in Bermuda and the Cayman Islands specialising in all aspects of the private client industry including wills, property, tax planning, estate administration, onshore and offshore trusts and litigation.

John Riches TEP

John RichesJohn is Co-Chair STEP Public Policy Committee and a former Deputy Chairman of the Society.

John works with family offices on a cross-border basis and deals with structuring for UK residents and resident non-domiciled families. He is recognised as a thought leader in the area of family governance and has written and spoken extensively on this topic. John’s role as an advisor to international families was also recognised in September 2011 when he was awarded the title of Trusted Advisor of the Year at the STEP Private Client Awards.

John founded RMW law in July 2011 with Samantha Morgan. RMW law is a niche legal practice dedicated to working for a limited range of international families and family offices. John remains a consultant at Withers LLP, where he was a partner from 1996 - 2011.

John can provide comment on matters pertaining to international tax.

Richard Frimston TEP

Richard FrimstonRichard is Co-Chair of the STEP Public Policy Committee and Chair of the STEP EU Committee. He is a Partner and Head of the Private Client Group at Russell Cooke LLP and advises clients in relation to their wills, probate and tax planning issues and offers Notary Public services. Richard is the Law Society representative to the European Committee of the Union Internationale du Notariat (UIN).

In 2014 he was honoured with the Geoffrey Shindler Award for Outstanding Contribution to the Profession at the STEP Private Client Awards.

Richard can provide comment on European Union law, cross-border estates and international private law issues.
