60-second interview with Simon Jennings TEP

As part of celebrating last year's Private Client Awards winners we spoke to Simon Jennings TEP who won the Lifetime Achievement Award 2022.

What is your role within your firm?

I am a Senior Consultant at Evelyn Partners.

How did it feel to win a STEP Private Client Award (PCA)?

It was a great honour, especially the lifetime achievement award. It must have required endorsement from many others, for which I am grateful.

llenges facing your organisation/practitioners at the moment, and how will you deal with them?

There is always a need for really good and well qualified staff and training programmes for professional development. In addition, in trust and estates, administration is constantly facing new challenges in both tax and regulation.

How will you deal with these challenges?

The first challenge can be addressed through good HR management, ensuring that the firm is a pleasant place to work as well as training and recruiting staff carefully. The second can be tackled by responding to external changes efficiently, ensuring that settlors and beneficiaries appreciate the need for such work, and planning is always appropriate for their needs.

What do you like best about your job?

The best part of my job is the people and families I advise.

...and what do you feel is most worthwhile?

I enjoy seeing generational change take place successfully, with effective wealth transmission, and with younger generations taking on responsible roles and satisfying careers of their own.

What would you say to a young person thinking of a career in this industry?

There is always going to be a need for good and dedicated advice to private clients and their families. Planning opportunities may change, and even be restricted, but good advice and guidance will always be needed.

Where do you see future growth, both in terms of sectors and jurisdictions?

I foresee growth in firms prepared to offer specialised and dedicated trust and administration, both offshore and in mainland countries.
