About STEP

STEP is the global professional association for practitioners who specialise in family inheritance and succession planning. We work to improve public understanding of the issues families face in this area and promote education and high professional standards among our members. STEP members help families plan for their futures, from drafting a will to advising on issues concerning international families, protection of the vulnerable, family businesses and philanthropic giving.

About the Essay Route

The Essay Route to STEP membership allows practitioners to demonstrate their knowledge through the submission of three essays of approximately 5000 words in length. Essays are based on topics that are published annually on the STEP website. Upon successful completion of the Essay Route, candidates are eligible to apply for Full Membership, which includes the right to use the TEP designation.

STEP is recruiting multiple Essay Examiners from a range of global jurisdictions.

Essays are submitted in July and October of each year, and a 6-8 week marking period then follows. The Essay Route is available across all STEP Branches, and STEP is looking to build a database of Examiners from across the globe, who are enthusiastic about being part of the assessment process. Essay Examiners are provided with guidance and a comprehensive mark scheme for the relevant essay topic.
