STEP Victoria
The Victoria branch, formerly known as the Melbourne branch of STEP, was established in 1999.About STEP Victoria
The branch’s current membership is in excess of 100 members and includes lawyers, barristers, judges, accountants and financial planners. Most members are located in Victoria’s capital city of Melbourne, while others practise their professions in regional Victoria. In recent years, newer branches in South Australia, Western Australia and Tasmania have formed from the membership of the Victoria branch.
Events and meetings
The Events Program is available on STEP Australia website.
The range of member interests and expertise ensures discussions at the regular meetings, and the annual conference provides practical advice and training for practitioners in all fields.
Annual Events
The Victoria Branch also holds four to five meetings per year. These meetings are free to members and a nominal fee is charged to non-members. At each meeting an individual speaker or panel of presenters is organised to present on a topical issue/subject.
An annual half-day conference provides an opportunity for longer presentations from specialist lawyers, accountants, financial planners and other industry professionals, and is the focus education event for the branch each year. It is followed by a cocktail event providing an opportunity for members and non-members alike to socialise and network. Attendance fee is payable by members and non-members.
Meetings
Regular meetings are held every two months in central Melbourne, with an individual speaker or panel presentation on a topical subject; presentations reflect the broad range of interests and clients of the membership group. Such topics have included: taxation of deceased estates, philanthropy and charitable foundations, foreign death duties and estate planning strategies, the impact of binding financial agreements on deceased estates and disputes between trustees and beneficiaries.
STEP Victoria has two special interest groups established in 201. The two focus on estate planning and estate and trust litigation. These groups have proven to be a great success. The Special Interest Groups hold two meetings per year. These are open to all members, and discussion is encouraged.
