Inheritance Disputes: With a Focus on Claims by Widows, Cohabitants and Children

A detailed look at the England and Wales Inheritance (Provision for Family and Dependants) Act 1975, with a focus on claims by widows, cohabitants and children, as well as a case round-up.

Event Focus

This seminar will provide a panel session focussing on provision for family and dependants under the Inheritance (Provision for Family and Dependants) Act 1975.

Tracey Angus QC, Barbara Rich TEP and Georgia Bedworth make up a hugely expert and experienced panel discussing and focussing on the operation of the Inheritance (Provision for Family and Dependants) Act 1975 in England and Wales. The panel will look at the principles in the Act and apply them to a range of examples considering how the court’s discretion is affected by factors such as the nature of the applicant, the relative means of the defendants and the size and nature of the estate and how those principles have changed in recent times. The panel will also be asked to comment on how to avoid claims in drafting and preparing wills.

In addition, delegates will be provided with an update on trust cases, statutes and trends from Jersey-based speaker, Oliver Passmore.
