Offshore trusts and ESG investing: a global roadmap. 16 February 2023

Fiduciaries of offshore trusts are frequently tasked with balancing the interests of multi-generational, multi-jurisdictional beneficiaries arising under an outdated trust instrument.

With these complexities in mind, how should such an individual approach the newer generation of investment strategies that incorporate environmental, social, and governance (“ESG”) considerations?

This presentation will provide offshore fiduciaries the tools to evaluate and engage with ESG-related investing by (i) identifying two common types of ESG-related strategies, (ii) providing a framework through which to evaluate an ESG-related strategy’s role in a trust’s overall portfolio, and (iii) suggesting ways in which a fiduciary can incorporate a trust’s beneficiaries to meet their needs and further mitigate fiduciary risk.
