Our clients are increasingly involved in the cross-border world, even when they don’t leave our shores. The European Succession Regulation (ESR) applies when there are assets within the jurisdiction of any European state regardless of the nature of such assets. Even Brexit has not dented the effect of the ESR.
Richard Frimston will guide us through the various elements of which we need to be aware when advising clients with assets within Europe, some of which tripping hazards may be obvious but others less so.
Richard is a consultant in the private client team of Russell Cooke, Solicitors. He advises clients in relation to estate planning, wills, probate and tax planning issues. His areas of expertise include cross border estates and international private law issues. Richard is a member of STEP Council, and of the Law Society’s EU Committee. In those roles he has been involved in negotiations with the European Commission and the UK authorities on the application of the ESR to UK based testators.
