Topic: Non-resident beneficiaries in the estate plan – a thorn in the side?
We live in a global and multicultural society where most families will have members who may either be non-Australian tax residents or non-Australian citizens which may have unintended consequences in the estate plan. Paul will review:
- Federal and State legislation including CGT, stamp duty and land tax liability
- Tax issues with trust distributions to non-resident beneficiaries
- Tests for determining residency
- Practical advice for clients
- Reviewing and updating trust deeds
