On Tuesday, 24 May 2022, STEP Manchester will be delighted to welcome Thomas Dumont QC of Radcliffe Chambers, Lincoln’s Inn, to Manchester to present the next in its series of Briefings in a face-to-face session.  The talk will follow the Branch AGM.

Mr. Dumont will examine the perils and pitfalls, opportunities and advantages of both appointments and advances. We are all well used to trust deeds which enable trustees to use either procedure.  But they can have different requirements and different consequences.  Getting it wrong could bring a trustee into conflict with beneficiaries, and even into court, though there is - sometimes - light at the end of the tunnel.

To spice up the talk, Mr. Dumont will also touch upon perpetuity issues and, in particular, those aspects that may need to be taken into account when considering an appointment or an advance.
