Ian Bond and Mark Hands, both of Irwin Mitchell, will discuss:

  1. Predatory marriage – Ian and Mark will discuss what predatory marriage is and the different tests for capacity. They will explore the caveats against marriage and how they are applied for and when they get them. They will also advise on the Law Commission proposals for reform.
  2. Trusts in the context of divorce – they will discuss how are they treated, what obligations are placed on trustees and what protection do they afford? They will also explore drafting issues for private client lawyers
  3. The roll of pre-nuptial (and post-nuptial) agreements in wealth planning – working with matrimonial lawyers in the best interests of clients.
  4. Gender issues for private client lawyers – in relation to wills, LPAs and the impact on existing marriages/civil partnerships as well as the position of a beneficiary or executor changing gender.
