Wealth taxes – An update. 21 April 2021
Senator Elizabeth Warren and Representatives Jayapal and Boyle have introduced “The Ultra-Millionaire Tax Act” to level the playing field and narrow the racial wealth gap. Three European countries – Norway, Spain and Switzerland -- levy net wealth taxes while Belgium, France, Italy and Portugal levy wealth taxes on selected assets. Austria, Denmark, Germany, Finland, Luxembourg and Sweden have abolished wealth taxes. A number of Latam countries -- Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Mexico, Peru and Venezuela -- either have, or are considering, wealth taxes.
