Diana Hamade TEP is Attorney at Law and Founder of International Advocate Legal Services in Dubai.

What does your firm or organisation do?

Our main practice area is family law services, and especially succession and wealth management. This also includes dispute resolution.

What has STEP done for you, individually, or as a business?

I really value the networking opportunities STEP provides, including the opportunity to exchange experiences and knowledge.

What is the most important thing STEP does, in your opinion?

STEP enables the transfer of knowledge and expertise from one jurisdiction to the other.

You will be speaking at the Special Interest Spotlight Sessions 2018 on 7 Dec. What will you be speaking on and what are the main issues?

I’ll be talking about matrimonial property under Shari’a law, which includes asset-sharing upon marriage, divorce or death.

What do you most like about your job?

I much appreciate the variety of people and cases I encounter. It is an interesting job indeed.

.. and what do you feel is most worthwhile?

It’s very satisfying to find solutions for people who are faced with significant life decisions.

What would you say to a young person thinking of a career in this industry?

Go for it!

Which sectors are likely to see the strongest future growth, do you think?

In my view, tax and family business succession.

What trends do you see in the global private wealth sector at the moment?

In the family business area, I’ve noticed a trend for more diversity in investments.

What do you feel are the main challenges facing practitioners at the moment, and how will you deal with them?

There’s a great deal of uncertainty, as far as laws and political issues are concerned.

Diana Hamade TEP is a lawyer and legal consultant based in Dubai, and has right of audience before all UAE courts. A member of the STEP Arabia branch, Diana graduated from the UAE University with a bachelor's degree in Shari’a and Law, and a master's from Aberdeen University in commercial law. She advises on succession planning with a Shari’a dimension in the region.
