Joseph Kellogg TEP is the Wealth Planning Executive with WE Family Offices in Miami, Florida.

How and why did you get involved with STEP?

In 1999, I was working as a Trust Officer in the British Virgin Islands and was given the opportunity to apply to STEP by one of the most important trust lawyers there, Christopher McKenzie TEP.

What benefits has it brought you personally, or in your business?

The STEP network has been the most efficient source of information and professional contacts in finding solutions for my clients.

You were recently given a Founder’s Award. What does this mean to you?

It is a great honour, and I feel challenged to live up to it.

What is the most important thing STEP does, in your opinion?

STEP provides me a framework for developing my vocation.

What would you say to other members who are thinking of getting more involved with STEP?

It's been one of the best investments I’ve made.

What do you most like about your job, and feel is the most worthwhile?

Helping families achieve their goals.

What would you say to a young person thinking of a career in this industry?

I’d ask him or her to explain why.

Which sectors are likely to see the strongest future growth, do you think?

I’d say contentious trusts.

What about jurisdictions?

For contentious trusts – the British Overseas Territories.

What trends do you see in the global private wealth sector at the moment?

The power of technology, the loss of privacy and the concentration of wealth.

What do you feel are the main challenges facing practitioners at the moment, and how will you deal with them?

The main challenge is to legitimise privacy.

Which social media channels do you use and why?

I find LinkedIn is a great tool for due diligence, and also keeping track of colleagues who have moved around.
