In addition to his professional trustee (TEP) and Series 7 designations, Samuel J. Wilkinson is a Justice of the Peace (JP), and a certified accountant (London) with an Associate’s Degree (AA) in Accounting from the University of The Bahamas (UB), and a BBA and MBA in management, accounting and finance from the University of Miami (UM). He is also a certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist who holds memberships in the Bahamas Association of Compliance Officers (BACO), the Compliance Institute of London and the Association of Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialists in the USA. A former revenue officer and commercial and retail lender, Mr. Wilkinson has held the position of Financial Controller in the banking, transportation and hotel industries. An accomplished lecturer for over 30 years, he has taught at a number of colleges and universities including Nova Southeastern University (USA); The University of The Bahamas (Nassau, Bahamas); Sojourner/Douglass College (USA); St. Benedict/St. John's University (USA); Success Training College (Bahamas) and the Bahamas Institute of Financial Services (BIFS). He was also a face-to-face presenter for STEP International (UK) and a presenter at the Florida International Bankers’ Association (FIBA) conference. Mr. Wilkinson has spent the last 18 years of his professional life in private banking. During this time, he was head of compliance and finance for Canadian and Swiss banks, and his responsibilities included the monitoring of trust structures, the supervision of annual trust reviews, the review of trust deeds, the preparation of financial statements and trust accounts, and the management of compliance departments. Prior to his current employment, he was the Assistant Resident Manager and Compliance Officer of an offshore Brazilian branch bank and subsidiary company with assets under management in excess of $3billion. Mr. Wilkinson is currently employed with a local financial services firm as head of compliance with regulatory responsibility for its pension, investment, brokerage, external assets management and compliance departments. He is married to Melanie Shawn and they have two sons, Samuel Jr. and Dante Shannon. His hobbies include travel, reading and music.
