STEP elects Nancy Golding QC as worldwide Chair
Nancy Golding QC TEP, a Partner at Borden Ladner Gervais (BLG) in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, has been elected as worldwide Chair of STEP, effective 1 January 2021. Nancy will take over from Simon Morgan TEP, who has served two terms in the role.
STEP is the global professional association for practitioners who specialise in family inheritance and succession planning. Founded in 1991, and with more than 21,000 members worldwide, STEP’s mission is to inspire confidence in families planning their assets across generations by setting and upholding high professional standards, informing public policy, promoting education, and connecting practitioners globally to share knowledge and best practice.
Nancy has practiced law in Calgary, Canada, for over 35 years. She is a tax partner in BLG’s Calgary office, as well as the National and Regional Leader of the Private Client Group. She works exclusively in estate and tax planning, estates and fiduciary litigation and mediation of trust and estate disputes.
Nancy has been a member of STEP for over 20 years, having joined for the formal and informal learning opportunities and to connect with trust and estate industry colleagues. She has served in a number of roles within STEP: as Calgary Branch Chair from 2006-08; as a member of STEP Canada’s Board of Directors from 2006-10; as one of the Canadian representatives on STEP’s worldwide Council since 2013; as a member of the worldwide Board of Directors since 2015; and as worldwide Deputy Chair since 2019.
On being elected Chair, Nancy said: ‘STEP is an influential leader in advising families across generations. I am honoured to be the next Chair and look forward to building on the thoughtful leadership of my predecessors. Our members are our most important assets. I will work to make sure that they continue to receive excellent value for their commitment to STEP.’
STEP’s Chief Executive, Mark Walley said: ‘I am delighted to welcome Nancy as our new Chair. She brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the role and I know will build on the fabulous leadership of those who have gone before her.’
In her role as Chair, Nancy will lead STEP’s Board of Directors, responsible for the high-level strategic direction of the Society. Board members have legal authority and responsibility for the organisation and are elected by members of STEP’s worldwide Council.
