STEP is delighted to announce 31 new award winners in its Worldwide Excellence Awards.

Launched in June 2016, the Awards run twice a year to celebrate the highest achievement in STEP qualifications globally.

The latest winners are the top achievers across STEP’s exams for the period 1 July - 31 December 2017.

Many of our winners are serial high achievers, with Helen Allen, Kin Wah Fung, Claire Weeks and Romi Sahai each winning two awards. Romi, Fiona Wallace and Matthew Southwell have also won in a previous intake.

STEP’s top-scoring Essay Route students are also recognised in these Awards. The Essay Route is a route to STEP membership for practitioners with five or more years’ experience, and requires candidates to submit three 5,000-word essays on set topics. Shelly Bend from the British Virgin Islands, and Jacopo Crivellaro from Zurich gained the highest marks out of all essays submitted globally.

‘We offer our warmest congratulations to our winners’, said Nigel Race, STEP’s Director of Professional Development, ‘It is enormously encouraging to have such a pipeline of talent coming through, and hugely impressive that some came top in more than one award, or have won on previous occasions. Many of these talented people will be names to watch out for in years ahead.’

The top students come from all over the world, including Jersey, Guernsey, Switzerland, Monaco, Luxembourg, Gibraltar, the Cayman Islands, Arabia, Hong Kong, Singapore, and Malaysia. Within the UK, London, Birmingham, Northern Ireland, and Scotland were all well-represented. Many have provided testimonials:

Simon Gorbutt TEP of Lombard International Assurance, Luxembourg and winner of the award for the Advanced Certificate in Cross-Border Estates said: ‘The subject matter is extremely interesting and if you have the time and inclination to apply these tools outside the course modules, this will likely stand you in good stead for the assessment and at work,’

STEP Canada runs a separate annual Canadian student awards programme and announced its winners at its National Conference on 28-29 May. The winners include the highest scoring STEP Canada Diploma and CETA programme graduates, the students who achieve the highest marks in each of the STEP Canada diploma papers, and the student who achieves the highest mark in Canada on the essay route.

Top scoring students for the period 1 January - 30 June 2018 will be announced in November 2018.
