Retired or Restricted Membership

Retired Members

Retired membership is available to Full, Associate or Affiliate Members who have retired and are no longer in receipt of any remunerated advice or work connected with trusts/estates. Small honorariums are acceptable for Trustees not acting in a technical capacity and will be considered on a case by case basis.  

Conditions of Retired Membership:

Retired Members have a reduced subscription fee and no CPD requirement. They continue to receive all member benefits, apart from being listed in the Member Directory and their voting/standing rights. Members who have been in the retired category for less than two years can automatically return to Full membership by informing STEP.

If a member has been in the retired category for more than two years they would have to complete at least two years’ relevant work experience before they can return to Full membership.

Restricted Members

Full, Associate or Affiliate Members who notify STEP of a change in their personal or financial circumstances may be eligible for a reduced rate of subscription, classified as Restricted Members and placed in one of the below categories. 

Non-earner

Members who are unemployed, on maternity leave, on a career break or long-term sick leave.

Secondee

Members who are seconded to another company or department and not in receipt of any remunerated advice or work connected to trusts and/or estates.

Conditions of Restricted Membership:

Restricted members pay a reduced subscription fee and continue to receive all member benefits, apart from their voting/standing rights. CPD requirements for Restricted members can be found at www.step.org/cpd

  • Restricted Full Members who have been in that category for two consecutive years shall no longer be entitled to use the TEP Designation
  • Restricted Members returning to work resume their previous membership category, except those who have been in the category for more than two years and who have lost the right to use the designatory letters TEP.  These members shall be readmitted as Associate members. For re-admission as Full Members they must have been back working in the field for at least two years and apply by completing the Membership Upgrade form.

Applications must be received by 1 July to be eligible for a reduced subscription for the current membership year and members will have ceased working by this date. After 1 July the reduced rate will apply for the following year if the member still meets the category requirements. The STEP subscription year runs from 1 April to 31 March. On receipt of this application the change of membership category will be effective immediately.  Payment must be included if the membership fee is due. If the fee has already been paid, no refund of the difference is permitted and the reduced fee will apply on the 1 April of the following year.  Please see a list of current membership fees.
