Mark Walley

Mark WalleyMark joined STEP as Chief Executive in January 2019. Prior to joining STEP, Mark worked as Managing Director, EMEA at the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) where he was responsible for ensuring growth in the EMEA region and led on the organisation's development of global sales, marketing and customer service strategies. Prior to this, Mark was Director of Corporate Development for the ifs School of Finance, responsible for the take-up of its professional qualifications and executive education programmes and before that, Regional Director EMEA for Cohen Brown Management Group. He started his career with Barclays where he spent 25 years, the latter part as Sales Director and then Chief Operating Officer of Barclays Wealth’s International Personal and Premier Banking Division. He holds a BSc (Hons) in Banking and Finance and is a Fellow of the Institute of Directors.

Simon Morgan TEP

Simon MorganSimon Morgan TEP is worldwide Chair of STEP. He is Director and Head of Private Clients at Vistra Jersey and has been in the international fiduciary business since 1982, working in Jersey and the Cayman Islands. Simon has been a member of STEP since 1994, is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Financial Services (London Institute of Banking & Finance), and was named in the CityWealth Honours list and Who’s Who Legal as one of the world’s leading practitioners in his field. He has held numerous leadership roles within STEP, serving as former chair of the largest branch, STEP Jersey, joining the worldwide Council in 2013, and the Board in 2017, where he served as deputy chair before being elected worldwide Chair in 2018.

Emily Deane TEP

Emily DeaneEmily Deane TEP is Technical Counsel at STEP. Emily was admitted to the Roll of Solicitors in England & Wales in 2005 and she has practised as a private client and trust solicitor in the UK, Bermuda and the Cayman Islands. She specialises in all aspects of the private client industry including wills, property, tax planning, estate administration, onshore and offshore trusts and litigation. Emily has been a TEP for several years and she joined STEP in 2016 as Technical Counsel in the policy team informing public policy in relation to trust and estate related issues.

John Riches TEP

John RichesJohn is Co-Chair STEP Public Policy Committee and a former Deputy Chairman of the Society.

John works with family offices on a cross-border basis and deals with structuring for UK residents and resident non-domiciled families. He is recognised as a thought leader in the area of family governance and has written and spoken extensively on this topic. John’s role as an advisor to international families was also recognised in September 2011 when he was awarded the title of Trusted Advisor of the Year at the STEP Private Client Awards.

John founded RMW law in July 2011 with Samantha Morgan. RMW law is a niche legal practice dedicated to working for a limited range of international families and family offices. John remains a consultant at Withers LLP, where he was a partner from 1996 - 2011.

John can provide comment on matters pertaining to international tax.

Richard Frimston TEP

Richard FrimstonRichard is Co-Chair of the STEP Public Policy Committee. He is a Partner and Head of the Private Client Group at Russell Cooke LLP and advises clients in relation to their wills, probate and tax planning issues and offers Notary Public services. Richard is the Law Society representative to the European Committee of the Union Internationale du Notariat (UIN).

In 2014 he was honoured with the Geoffrey Shindler Award for Outstanding Contribution to the Profession at the STEP Private Client Awards.

Richard can provide comment on European Union law, cross-border estates and international private law issues.
